National Speaking Tour -- First Year

Dear Mark,

WE have a barely functioning toilet 00 when/if you visit an RV parts store, you can ask about::::

I filled up the water tank -- from the hose -- fine.

Then I tested all faucets -- all worked fine -- apparently the hot water flow does not work unless the hot water tank is turned on?
'
There are two water pump switches -- one at the bathroom sink and one in the toilet room. Apparently the switch in the toilet room allows or prevents water flushing in the toilet.

There is a foot lever to flush the toilet -- pushing down the foot lever starts the water flow into the bowl. There is a hose with spray nozzel that you can also use to swish the inside of the bowl.

As you push down on the foot lever, there is a round ball-shaped valve -- like a round ball with a tunnel/hole through it to allow the toilet contents to pass through this valve, straight, into the waste compartment -- no U tube.

That round ball rotates as the foot lever is pushed down--- when the lever pops up (may be supposed to be automatic but it appers that you have to pull the foot lever upwards, can be with the foot. The upward motion turns off the water flow and rotates the round ball so that nothing can flow through to the storage.

This ball worked once or twice, even if the lever did not pop up with out help, but then the ball rotated part way and would not close or open further. I pushed it easily with my fingers -- and it opened all the way -- so any contents in the bowl would flush through, but the ball would not rotate fo the sealing position and the water continued to run unless the switch was turned off.

That round ball now does not seem controlled in any way by the foot level.

Wayne Mathis spent 20 minutes, flashlight, screwdriver, on his stomach -- took off a outer plastic housing that hides some of the water and lever action -- did not find any missing screw that might have connectd the foot lever with the arm for rotating that ball.

The plastic housing is now back in place -- it has an irregular hole gauged out -- as if someone may have tried to do some amateur repair through that hole (to secure the toilet to the floor?)

His best guess is that whild repair may be possible, it probably needs a part that relates to the control by the foot lever of that valve/ball.

Tiffin may be the only place to get such a part, but if you visit an RV Parts store and this story sounds familiar, then we may be able to get a part before we leave Monday.

The toilet, as is, will work with the valve/ball in the constant open position. That will allow the contents in the bowl to flush down easily, but not prevent oders from coming up -- we have put in one deodor packet of chemicals recommended for RV toilet tanks - and can put one or two more.. That room also has a window open and a power air vent to help.

We will leave on Mondy even if the toilet doesn't work right

I suspect that Glen Cook knew about this and didn't tell us, but we have no guarantee of any condition for the coach, so it would appear that we will have to pay all repairs. I don't expect anything else, but I'll send a copy of this to the broker, just in case.
